house of wax

well i can see why it was poorly received at the time
but now it's got the same 200X charm as all the other dark castle semi-remakes.
the practical effects were GREAT, only a bit of terrible cgi at the end

Hoppers

Bruh, Hoppers is actually kinda skibidi wild 💀

The whole plot is basically humans putting their minds into robot animals to spy on real animals. Like… that idea alone is already max goofy ahh science. The main girl starts hopping into different animals and immediately starts moving mad sus, so the other animals are like “nah something ain’t right here.”

Watching her try to act like a normal animal is actually hilarious. She keeps messing up basic animal stuff and you’re just sitting there like bruh you’re cooked. Every time she almost gets caught it’s giving Ohio-level chaos.

The animation is honestly W though. The animals look super clean, yaaasiffied and expressive, and some scenes go way harder than you expect. One minute it’s cute forest vibes, next minute it’s like a full nature documentary boss battle.

The comedy is very brainrot energy — lots of fast jokes, awkward moments, and characters making the situation worse every five seconds. Some jokes are mid, but when they hit they’re actually funny.

The only L is the story kinda gets messy in the middle. It’s like the movie can’t decide if it’s a cute animal adventure, a sci-fi experiment story, or just pure chaos. But the ending pulls it together enough that you’re like “ok that was kinda fire.”

Final rating:
🔥 7.5/10 — lowkey a W movie

Summary:
🐿️ cute animals
🤖 weird science
💀 goofy chaos
🧠 tiny bit of “wait that’s kinda deep” energy

Overall: not peak cinema but definitely not mid. Worth the watch fr.

NAHH bruh, acting like Max Goof got publicly fanum taxed by the Skibidi Tribunal 💀 that wasn’t slander, that was Ohio canon DLC lore expansion. Max still sigma, still goated, still mogging the toon multiverse while you’re stuck with negative aura and NPC dialogue. Cope harder lil bro, the skibidi council already approved it.

The Possession of Hannah Grace (2018)

No expectations. Started very abruptly, then a whole different story with a lot of things just being off and upsetting.
Maybe the best possession movie since... I don't know. I'm going to say Stigmata (1999) just because.

Creepy as fuck. My daughter had to sleep with her mom after watching it.
It makes great use of sound and darkness, so see it in a good theater. This movie won't hit the same at home unless you have an excellent home theater.

a flight of dragons

this is one of those movies i LOVED as a kid
it has...not aged particularly well.
like it's not racist or anything
just that the pacing is SUPER slow
and virtually every plot point is driven by some handwavy magic that was never brought before, and won't be brought up again
and the animation is janky (but in a charming kind of way).

super formative to me, but i'd have a hard time recommending it to anyone who isn't a ten year old fantasy nerd.
the weirdest thing about it, for me, is that it claims to be based on the book "the flight of dragons" by peter dickinson
but it's actually NOT based on that book at all...it's based on a book called "the dragon and the george" by gordon r dickson (not the be confused with philip k dick).
the only elements it took from "the flight of dragons" is the name "peter dickinson" and some of the explanations of dragon physics.

i'd actually recommend both of those books to anyone interested in fantasy,
"the flight of dragons" is more like an encyclopedia
while "the dragon and the george" is a fun fantasy isekai
that spawned an entire series of books that really lean into the whole connecticut-knight-in-king-arthur's-court style
with the benefit of being written by an actual medieval historian, so the fish out of water stuff is based on real historical understanding, not just medieval cliches

i'm probably not convincing anyone to try out any of these things
that's fine
just getting it out there

moneyball (2011)

as someone who did not follow baseball during that time and didn't know if they would get the record a couple of things were unclear to me
but the music
Spoiler seemed to very obviously let you know chris pratt is going to hit a homerun
but they never point out that it's bottom of the ninth at that time you just realize it's a walkoff

but i think they assumed a big part of the audience would already know if they did or did not get the record

what was the point of brad pitt telling 'david justice' to be more of a verteran presence and lead guys moreso off the field, and then he had like a 30 second scene where he tries to encourage chris pratt and then i don't think he was in the movie again lol

honestly i thought it was a dece movie
