In honor of Tituba, one of the first women accused in the Salem WITCH trials.
Dang. Yeah.
Maybe one day I’ll watch Weapons but the trailer was lame.

Was I the only one who thought One Battle After Another was...not that good? Easily his worst movie.
There's no "better." They're both kickass.
But the 3-part storytelling of Weapons just hooked me.

No. Not the only one. Thank you.
I have felt like I'm in the twilight zone with One Battle. I just didn't care for it AT ALL, yet it's deemed as like one of the greatests works ever made.
Sean Penn was a standout, but the story is just like, why? Why was this made?
It's how I feel when GRRM insists upon constant incest and rape, or in White Lotus with the brothers JOing each other.
It's like, THIS is what you are choosing to write about?
I'm no fuckin prude -- I just don't get it.
i'm pretty sure that if a piece of media has taboo or aggressive or non-consensual sexual content in it then it's like good no matter what?
i believe that is the general rule that we live by as a society?
hang on let me just take a look at literally anyth- yeah pretty sure that's the case.

I loved One Battle After Another.
Any three-hour movie that never feels like three hours
is exceptional for me.

The scene of cars going over hills that everyone is weirdly raving about seemed like 3 hours on its own.
Wtf did he take a story that is so importantly a period piece, the director who does period pieces so fucking well, and makes it modern day slop?

i did not enjoy the climax of the movie. the car chase made me feel both anxious and bored and i do not like when a film does that.
overall it was mostly just depressing and sometimes funny.
it was okay. i did not dislike it but i am not gonna watch it again any time soon or probably ever.

It's all too obvious, like he's getting behind the times. Reminded me of when I watched Jarmusch's zombie movie. A lifetime of subtleties and then you throw in this obvious stinker.
I know Pinchon is tough to put to film. So do what you do best PTA, stick to the times.

Oh fuck was that the zombie movie with Bill Murray and Adam Driver?
That shit sucked so fucking bad. I was mad when that movie was over.

Yep. It's even worse cause Jarmusch was at the helm. Old man yells at cloud energy film. Abhorrent.
oh shit I just realized the Melania movie is directed by Brett Ratner.
hahahahahahaha breath hahahahahahaha

Polanski and Allen were a bit too old and had to turn the offer down.

Also as a favor to Netanyahu. I shit you not.
Imagine a 1943 Riefenstahl film on Eva Braun in which she talks about leiderhosen and Adolf's paintings.
Oh dang, Family Portraits: A Trilogy Of America is on Plex.
How to trick wife into watching.

Maybe it's just the genre I prefer, but when will the fad of chapter title cards in movies die down? Seems like they're everywhere during the last 5 years or so.
It's pretty obvious when it's a considered, intentional choice and when it's for sophisticated or literary affect.
Not for nothing, but Paris Hilton really did her job in House Of Wax (2005).
Family Portraits: A Trilogy Of America
Not a good date movie
unless
I'll just say this: In a post-Minneapolis world, Robocop 3 hits different.
Finally watched Predator Badlands
I fuckin loved Prey so I was pumped for this and this was not as good as Prey. I still liked it but it just ran headfirst into all the problems related to getting a bigger budget for more CGI.
I appreciate that they tried to add some context to the Predators, and was looking for it but I think the director and myself both overestimated how much I do not care about a Predator's backstory. I hated the introduction fight it was like watching a video game cutscene. It should have started falling from space like Predators did (top tier predator movie btw). And I did not like the Predator talking. Or rather I did not like his subtitles. Elle Fanning is good enough that they could have just had her understand and the whole movie is just her responding to him clicking, gurgling and pointing like a Predator and she just goes like "Oh you're father hates you that's sad" and it would have made the Predator more relatable and interesting.
I think this is the 4th best Predator movie.
Great movie 5/5

i tried twice and couldn't even finish it.
this is easily one of the top 10 most boring movies i've ever seen...
like, i don't even know how you can make a movie that's 70% shirtless timothy chalamet
and bore me
but
it found a way

i guess some people just can't handle a Predator protagonist.
damn shame.
damn shame.
why would you lie to me and to yourself and to god and to god jr.
I think from time to time on that Truffault line about how it is impossible to make an anti-war film, you can only fool yourself, etc.
I like extreme or absolute propositions like that because I can affirm it as true and go from there to see if it falters. Even at my big age I still jump on radical concepts and claims with enthusiasm and temper them as empty utility, edge cases, etc reveal themselves.
People counter with films like Deer Hunter (1978), Apocalypse Now (1979), or Threads (1984) or Come And See (1985).
Come and See is probably the most credible case. But its message is not that War Shouldn't Happen; it is very much the opposite. The war, the resistance had to happen. And being right doesn't spare you from horror.
Threads is a persuasive, but it doesn't say anything about how war (specifically nuclear war) should not be waged or even countenanced; it's just a grim imagination of what will become of us in such a world.
Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now are laughable. The former is Sad Killer Boys realizing they have to live the rest of their lives and don't know how and the latter is naïveté plumbing the depths of The Dark Continent.
I think I agree with Truffault.

It's been decades since I've seen it, but seems like Hamburger Hill was a fair attempt, on a small scale anyway. All I really recall of it was the pointless futility of throwing bodies up a single, uphill battle over and over on orders from unseen command, with the only result being corpses and severely traumatized survivors.
i don't know that it's "impossible to make an anti-war film"
but i might agree that it's impossible to make an anti-war film with soldiers are your protagonists.
the whole point of protagonists is that you root for them to succeed at whatever they're doing
and in a war film, if you're a soldier, that thing is generally war
so it kind of assumes that it's a thing worth doing.
it's not hard to conceptualize an anti-war film from the point of view of the civilians who are devastated.
there are probably better examples than this, but grave of the fireflies is the first one that pops into my mind.
you MIGHT also be able to get away with having your protagonists be conscripted/drafted soldiers in a blatantly unjust war,
but even then, when the soldiers are clearly on the wrong side, it sort of implies that the OTHER side is right to defend itself or whatever
which muddies the message

Since we are on the topic of horrible first date movies. May I bring up The Act of Killing as the most hardcore, hit-you-in-the-face anti-war film of all time?
OMG, I just found a link to the full version of The Last American Virgin.
I finally get to see Carmela again? I think I'm gonna cry.

Incredible soundtrack, which is probably why you can't find it anywhere.
