I won't be going down to the US for the foreseeable future, have some health concerns, and don't want to risk something occurring down there.

I miss our trips down there, used to go down several times a year, but haven't renewed our NEXUS cards since they expired back in 2020.

so much leaf raking.
There are 5 or 6 different varieties of deciduous trees, each does a dump at a different time.
The Magnolia on our patio dumps them late November, and our neighbour's is just getting ready to dump its load. Goes on from October-December.

we had some kids ring out doorbell while we weren't home. I connected to the doorbell cam and saw 5 kids with snowshovels standing there. I couldn't very well tell them to shovel the walk and I'll pay them later really so I just hung up.

It wasn't until the next day that we realized they shoveled our front walk anyway!

Toronto has 14 Michelin star restaurants
Average price of tasting menu is $225 if pairing their wine that's another $125. Add HST and gratuities. Bookings are 2 months ahead. Spending $550 for culinary orgasm would be worth it even if it's not filling
I can imagine someone going to all 14.

Anyway folks McDonald's the Grinch meal is back

Yo!
Bamboozled, will this be your first trip to Disney World? I was there in 2012. Actually today I had it pop up in Facebook memories. That place was amazing.

I broke the USA boycott in October. I needed a break and had a couple bucket list items to cross off. I started in San Diego, saw the Blue Angels (item 1). Then I drove across south California, into and through Arizona, seeing many awesome places on my way to list item #2 Monument Valley. Gawd that place is stunning. Then I made my way to San Francisco where I spent close to a week. The US government shut down messed with my plans a bit, but didn’t totally ruin it. And I got to see the RCAF Snowbirds over San Francisco Bay. So cool!

Base 1-day park ticket is $119/person (10+years).
Eating there could easily top that each day.

Last time we went with our son and his fiance for a week, the total of everything (not counting transportation down there and back) was over $10k. That was all of us sharing one room at a deluxe on-property resort, but it was also during peak holiday season and we did a couple of special events.

If you can score a free dining plan and stay at one of their value resorts, it's much more financially manageable. I have read that there is a growing problem of people putting themselves in serious debt to keep going there. While I hate that it's becoming unaffordable for so many people who should be able to experience it, especially kids, I really don't know what could be realistically done about it. Overcrowding is already a problem in the parks and guests (and overworked staff) on average are noticeably less happy there.

My Brother left his car in my unused parking spot (I've been auto-less for 3 years now) while he took his family to Thailand for a month. He encouraged me to drive it.

I took a 4 day Electronic Sabbatical earlier this week, and did an Island road trip to see some of my friends on the other islands. Not having a car has made it very difficult to see them.

It was a lot of driving, and an eight ferry round-trip. The weather was mildly shitty, with lots of rain showers, but fortunately, no windstorms that would close the ferries down.

His car is a vintage Scion xB, with a 5 speed stick shift. It's a beater, but it didn't maroon me in the boondocks, and for that, I am grateful.

Toronto's had 37 homicides so far this year

I'm not sure if Toronto is still the 4th largest as there has been an exodus out of the city - unsure what the numbers are. It certainly 'feels' less crowded compared to recent years. Rents have dropped 14 months straight.

I remember going to Xmas Market Distillery District or Automotive show and thinking this was waay too crowded for being opened only a couple hours.

I'm drawing a straight line between population and murder rates with no data. Meh feels about right

Grandfather of AI worked at UofT
Nortel, RIM, all originated in Ottawa, Waterloo.
All gone now.
Our issue with innovation is the red tape and global companies buying our IP, mining our assets.
We have a monopoly in Uranium deposits, which is crucial to feed data centers. Do we leverage that against other nations that look to push us around? Nope. We let companies do business like it was still pre-Trump days.*
Other companies or countries are playing Risk, and we're running a lemonade stand.
Anyway, Canada should provide pathways to those with unique skillsets, like we used to. Or maybe still do. It's all been about temporary workers this temporary workers that.
Feds have to do better cultivating innovation and then protecting that IP or asset from being contracted away or via corporate espionage**
