Technically roommate's dog, but really just the house dog of the 3 people here for the last 8 years.
Taught him every trick he knew, and cared for him his whole life, especially when roommate was on the road working for weeks or months at a time.

Was mopey and eating less enthusiastically starting a month ago, got brought to the Vet, they did a workup, said gut infection, and gave antibiotics. He was just about finished with the pill regiment, and seemed to be at his highest point of recovery as of late.
Seems it was a misdiagnosis, with some sort of organ failure going on, but had literally no other symptoms that slight nausea from a stomach bug and the antibiotics didn't explain, never even threw up and had regular poops and all that. So really wasn't expecting it.

On Friday I reported for jury summons.
I was like, whatever, I can get out of it.
I haven't responded to them since Santa Ana in 2004.
But I went for some reason, and I was stuck in there all day and I had to come back on Monday for jury selection.
Well, on Sunday night Ely and I split a sandwich for dinner and she went to bed and I stayed up all night drinking wine and watching the 28_Later movies
And I mean I didn't sleep a single minute.
I sat in the back of the room weaving around like I was trying to get people in to look at used cars.
Thankfully I was not called upon.
And today I was like clearly they are not going to pull me up to the box to answer questions or whatever.
And they did.
And I got selected.
And it gets better:

I am an alternate.

And then not even be able to vote about it.

Why do people say sheet like, "The problem is, is that..."?
The hell are you doing?
From: fear7trembling - I hope you're watching when it #76
Date: 01/02/26 @ 11:35 AM
There is a way to explain that in linguistics but it's really difficult.
But "the problem is" is functioning as a kind of introductory establishing clause, almost like a noun or interjection.
Like if I said "What it is" and then went on as if that were the antecedent.
I'm racking my brains trying to figure out if there's any cultural or regional or language association.
Really the "is that" in your example is the real problem, because baby what.

Went to check my mail and my box was wide open, nothing in it.
Hadn't checked it in a week or so, wasn't expecting anything.
It's usually just junk anyway. But there had to be at least something in there, junk or no.
Tried to lock it back up and it's broken. Won't lock. Guessing it's not the mail carrier because
it's one of those apartment setups where there's a central key to open all of the boxes to drop mail into.
The boxes themselves don't close great, but they do lock. Someone must've stolen my goddamn mail somehow.
Hope you enjoy those Culver's coupons and the mail for all of the people who don't live in my apartment.
Fuck this place.

In classic ikimashokie fashion, a vague-kvetch.

It feels like a common theme in my life is wanting to do something, and being told I can't or that the other person is not interested.

But then somehow, a third party comes along and everything's different, everyone's gung-ho, this idea is novel and the best and why didn't they think of it sooner?

I'm a bit tired of it.

dad died
probably a few days ago
went to do a check-in today and found him
he hadn't been on Facebook in a few days and then didn't reply to a text and a call
looked like something very sudden/quick like a major stroke, heart attack/failure, or aneurysm, but it was determined no autopsy needed due to natural causes

town funeral home that was on call took him and said to let them know whenever and whatever we wanted to do going forward
and then they called 30 minutes after they left when I was headed back home asking if I decided yet or not
and then they said to let them know by tonight or tomorrow morning

so the last few weeks have been not so great
it's my birthday this Saturday

Didn't get to sleep until the early morning hours yesterday for obvious reasons, and then these guys showed up at 7 am across the street.
And then these other guys show up when I thought the vac truck left, but then he also came back.
7am to 4pm ungodly racket.

And then been up all night tonight doing some digital archiving and planning.
The last 48hrs I've gotten like three 2-3hr naps in total.

Ignore dirty window exterior, it's the 2nd floor and hard to clean man.
