I played through the original Banjo & Kazooie again not long ago and it's still the best game.

I still have my original DVD image that I ripped for LAN parties.
No idea where the real DVD is now.
Time to try it out again.

I've been playing Red Dead Redemption 2, and it's a lot funnier than I thought it'd be.
Sassy dirty cowboy.

One interesting observation about Ocarina of Time, when it came out I remember thinking that the open world seemed so massive. Now it seems so small after playing Breath of the Wild LOL.
i disagree strongly with that
but my opinion is also based on the fact that BotW+edibles is possibly the most incredible gaming experience possible.
speaking of which, i'm getting a switch 2 this week. i know everyone loves mario kart for it, but i've always been terrible at racing games and they don't hold my interest enough to git gud.
right now, the only must-buys i have are TOTK and final fantasy 7 remake intergrade.
what else do i need?

I’m back into risk of rain 2.
Just kind of a spectacularly good game.
I’ve played it for maybe 130 hours and won twice?
When there are like 8+ difficulty levels beyond what I’m playing on.
The fact I haven’t cracked it is part of what keeps bringing me back.

we bought a nex playground going into winter to keep the kiddo active. it uses motion tracking so there’s no need for a controller. most games are all about jumping, crouching, leaning, etc
it sounds cool, and there are some fun games, but overall it feels unfinished and buggy as hell. most if not all games play as if they are still in beta. the kiddos favorite is a tmnt side scroller but unfortunately for him its impossible. he loves it but gets frustrated quick
it is apparent the developers didnt test or play their own game and it makes me want to slap them
you should have to provide proof you played your own game before it can be released to the public

my cousin is super into motion-based vr games
even the legit ones are janky as hell, in my opinion.
i love vr, but only if i can use a controller, and spin around in my chair to look/aim

Ok I'm fully in its grip now. Insane game.
150-ish hours in and just starting to feel like I'm understanding it.
You can have a 90-minute run where you feel like god incarnate
and be taken out in an instant: one mistake.
One of the most intense and polished experiences I've ever had
in regards to how well it scales the insanity/fun/difficulty across a very wide range.

I changed my mind, it's really sad.
Marathon has a free "server slam" a week before launch. Those servers ain't gettin' slammed.
Game is shit. It's a colorific FPS slopshow that's so hard to visually that you're spending more time trying to visually decipher what is happening than playing. There's a LOT of loot variation and not a lot of loot containers. It's a fucking mess. You're trying to read a lot of dialogue on 3 items per room and then you're dead.
You're dead because the time to kill is astronomically low. PvP kills are sub 1 second. PvE kills are sub 2 seconds depending on circumstance. Shit appears out of nowhere at the worst possible times.
Buddy and I wiped 6 NPCs and 2 teams of 2. We had 0.5 seconds to heal before 6 more NPCs and another team shit all over us. Neat. There's no quick slots to access healing as far as I can tell. I'm tabbing through menus just to heal. If there is, the game does fuckall to explain it.
I'm playing a lot of games on a bluetooth headset with open ears (so i can hear when my wife is mad and the geriatric cat is in distress). I set my mic to my webcam. Bluetooth headsets can't handle HD sound and voice at the same time which is no issue for any dev with a quarter of a brain. Marathon ain't that. If I only have audio in to my BT headset, it still treats it as if I'm sending voice out and drops my audio quality. Extremely niche complaint, but just shows you that the dev team ain't up to snuff.
The game is clearly designed to appeal to ultra-hardcore PvPers who will shy away because the gunplay is only just OK. Below par for a Bungie game.
Dead on arrival.

Lol you got to the sad chapter, huh?
There's some rough parts ahead, my friend.
Absolutely perfect game, through and through.

I'm playing the epilogue now.
Such a brilliant moving game.
I don't think I've ever played a game quite like I've been playing this one.
A lot of open world games end up being skinner boxes, fast traveling from one point to another to check off a list.
Something about the pace and beauty of this one just make me want to take my time and and smell the flowers.
I was kind of laughing at how indulgent it is when I started, with so many details appearing unnecessary to gameplay.
But it does something for immersion, and it really hooked me.

I feel like the only open world game that did exactly what you describe better was Witcher 3, and only because every side quest had a purpose and a story to tell. Mostly the same for RDR2, but I remember a couple beings slogs (main one I remember was gathering orchids for that hat maker).
But they setting and the music of RDR2 was magical. I played it with these really expensive headphones and whoever did the sound of the game was a genius.

Witcher 3 was pretty fun, but I had a hard time getting into it because the protagonist is a teen boy's idea of a cool guy.
Arthur Morgan is a lot more relatable.

RDR2 hit me the same way, bunny, its one of my all time favs and it moved me emotionally more then any other game

Well call me a teeeeeeeen boi cause I think he cool as hell. But I understand what you mean. He is pretty progressive though if you read into the lore a bit more.
He gets fleshed out in the game too as you play, for sure.
But I don't think I ever got over the first impression of "cool edgy broody guy with two swords and a scar, and his biggest flaw is he has no feelings and cat eyes".

Cat eyes is NOT a flaw! 😍
cat eyes means he can see in the dark!!!! important cool guy thing!!!!
witcher 3 was amazing tho
the books are amazing too
i wonder if they'll ever make another tv show other than the old polish one
i guess we'll never know
and rdr1 was great, i haven't pushed myself to do 2 because im pretty sure i dont have the emotional capacity for it lol

No bro. You need Cats Eye for that. Don't be Witchist.
Oh you're right, I forgot there's a potion for that lmao
I did have to use it once when I couldn't find the way through a cave

The whole process of becoming a witcher is fucked. Steal orphans. Like 2 out of 10 survive the horrid and torture or becoming one, tall grasses and all that.
So that Geralt is all like fuck those trials is kinda anti-bro, right?

OOT update: Just finished the Forest Temple. Phantom Ganon was a bit of a PITA. I'm not sure what to do now, I take back my earlier remark about the world seeming small - especially with two different timelines.
replaying the original ff7 cause they updated the steam to the ps4 one with the 3x speed/nobattles/godmode qol stuff
i like it but messed up the barret date requirements... that's at least ten hours of work :( i dont even know where

Fuck I'm jealous of your Dreamcast, bfte. The button to screen response was waaaaay ahead of any other console at that time. I remember playing THPS2 on my friend's playstation after putting in hours on the Dreamcast and thinking, "this console is damaged or something". Purchasing a Dreamcast and all of my old favorite games is definitely on my bucket list.
I just recently brought a 36" CRT TV and my N64 to the office. Now I challenge employees and customers who recognize it to a game of The New Tetris. Finally had a 4 player battle game last week and it made me so unbelievably happy.

Slay the Spire 2 is out and it's like what Risk of Rain 2 did for Risk of Rain. Same gameplay loop with new abilities, greatly improved artwork and multiplayer coop. It's all around a better game than the first. Did like ten hours yesterday with a buddy and being able to clutch an encounter when they have died is tough, especially since the enemies are like 3x their health if there's only two of you. They will revive if you make it but only with 1 health so a lot of RNG is gonna go into making it much further after that... which is true almost always anyways so.
Anyway, 10/10 would get frustrated over and over again

Yeah it was definitely the best performance and just generally felt like a step up. Shame it got its dick kicked off.
I need a CRT. Well I want one. Badly. Hard to find and expensive now.
Risk of Rain 2 was an insane departure from Risk of Rain
and I hated it for that reason at first
until I have warmed up to it and found it to be a significantly better game.
