I actually really enjoy Samurai stories - I'm writing one myself. i read Shōgun and then when I was halfway through the book they announced the show on Hulu. I was thrilled.
I am very much looking forward to watching more of his catalog.

I guess Ikiru kinda slogs at the end, but it kinda went like, final scene of a play.

And I guess like, those were super Shakespeare, but not to a point that it was distracting, to me at least. Hard to think of it at least with Ran, when you see the thousands of extras with legit samurai armor, and people shooting real arrows at the actors, and having just one take of burning the whole fucking set down, and the actors walking out of it

His colleagues sitting around and just not having a single goddamn thing to say was like... okay. Really driving home how bleak this was.

Yeah, with the color and the storm and Hidetora's abject agony, it was a fully realized film; I just mean that my brain was looking for the refence going in and I wondered what it would be like without that lens.

shampoo (1975)
don't know who warren beatty is other than the name, but did recognize goldie hawn
john slattery recommended it on a recent criterion closet

it's groovy i guess, has a great scene where george leaves the bank
the nixon election is also going on the whole time in the background w clips of him saying his goal is to unify everyone
i feel like this is one of those you had to watch it in 1975 to really be moved by it
but it was interesting enough
one thing which probably isn't held to be true anymore is he says you should wash your hair everyday to keep the scalp dry and flaking supposedly being a natural way of exfoliating it

The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976)

It just gets more and more absurd and ridiculous over the course of the movie.
Loved it as a kid, favorite of the film series.

Good luck, have fun, don't die

I was sold on a fun Sam Rockwell-centric hostage movie.

What I got was a self-indulgent ensemble piece tinged with suburban strip mall philosophical pretensions about AI.

Avoid this garbage at all costs. Or else, they'll make more.

scream 7

better than the last two, definitely.
the central mystery is more interesting than it has been in a while
also i think they upped the gore, if you're into that

The mask looks so much like Courtney Cox's new face, it's confusing.

I liked that they rat fucked that movie to hell and people loved it anyway because the old cast are back.

Good stuff.

Super Mario Galaxy

Is definitely an animated story that is about 2 hours long with a beginning, middle and end.

I was not miserable while watching it. I wasn't really happy either. I just was. Maybe that was the point. Maybe that's the point of all of this.

I'm glad I found someone else who didn't like it.

husband pointed out her eyebrows when she first showed up
and from that point on it was all i could see whenever she was on screen

i didn't really follow any of the making-of drama for this one
it's not so much that the old cast is back, for me at least, it's how they were handled.
skeet ulrich was back in the last one, for example, but it didn't do much for me
because he was just greengoblining wednesday
instead of actually contributing to the plot.
matthew lillard, in this one,
is used in a really interesting way that genuinely keeps you guessing about where it's going

Companion

Went in knowing nothing about it, so that helped a lot.
Maybe ended a little soft but still enjoyed it.

by abandoning the entire plotline they had built in the previous two films
and introducing some new random shit and fabricating connections to previous movies
in order to justify bringing back cast members that have been absent for 15 years?

different strokes, i guess.

Dark humor at times, but very funny on top of being reasonably clever

Buzzard (2014) (Tubi)

Uh... it's really good. But I kept checking the time toward the end and thinking "Any second now" but nothing happened and I didn't even feel like it gave me much to think about.

Scary Movie 2 is on Tubi so I gave it a watch. Still goofy funny, then Scary Movie 3 started after, which I haven't seen maybe since it came out, and I remember thinking it was dumb.

It still is, but in all the right ways. I laughed way more to 3. And it's got Leslie Nielson. The guy who wrote Chernobyl and Last of Us wrote it, lol.

I was curious if it was Scary Movie 3 that had this scene but the second I pulled it up, it had Scary Movie 4 in the title:

You know what? He's trying. Despite his acting limitations, he wants to do more than the PewPew Shootsalot schtick.

And you know what? He earned it.

I'm an actor, i'm in the low percentile when it comes to talent, but I like acting, so this is me acting.

romy and/or michele

man, i wish I'd seen this movie when i was younger
it would have been one of the movie i watched hundreds of times and memorized
but i just never bothered because it looked like a chick flick

anyway, this thing does NOT need a sequel
any more than beetlejuice did
