I've always been dismayed at how seemingly all R&D on HPV shit is for women.

Dude's getting all types of cancers from it and I guess the best they can do is a "damn that sucks"
From: bfte #1567
Date: 05/07/26 @ 3:06 AM
I guess in fairness that's gotten better since I was young but boy was it frustrating to be told by every doctor I ever saw that either nothing exists or that I was too old to receive any currently available vaccines
From: Monkopotamus #1568
Date: 05/07/26 @ 3:50 AM
until we can fix R&D to be truly balanced
dude's will just have to settle for like 95% of all drugs being tested based on men only
From: bfte #1569
Date: 05/07/26 @ 3:55 AM
i mean yeah, i get the point, medicine has historically and still currently caters primarily to men and excludes women from many things while also mistreating them.

doesn't make it less frustrating from my perspective.
i would happily stop that, if i could. i don't think i deserve to be excluded anymore than they do.

if you think the answer to women being denied pain medication because "women can handle pain better"
is to tell men "lol enjoy your throat cancer you fuckin dumbass" then wow what a dumbass take, for real.
From: bfte #1571
Date: 05/07/26 @ 4:13 AM
sorry, that was unnecessarily rude and reductive

i do not think that punitive reasoning is a good track to follow in... i guess a lot of things, but particularly in medicine.
From: Monkopotamus #1572
Date: 05/07/26 @ 4:49 AM
it does suck for all sides
it would be best for it to not be that way
but men have the best go of it though in general medicine
that's all

The HPV vaccine is for men too
Also I would not be surprised if the technique above or something very adjacent to it could be used on men and women for the throat or possibly other areas of generalized cell type/zone infection

Next time you go and ask about the hpv vaccine and they say you're to old ask them to note that they're saying no to that on your chart and to date it and to let you see it
From: reno #1574
Date: 05/07/26 @ 12:04 PM
It is actually still pretty expensive to get for women also if they're "too old"

Almost all medical research has been done for men about men. They did not even acknowledge women had different heart attack symptoms than men until recently.

i think it has finally caught up with my age bracket and i should be able to get it now.

i gave up out of bitterness a while ago but i'll talk to my doctor about it next time i go in

My insurance covers it fully up to age 45, the MNsure state spin off of the ACA.
From: Monkopotamus #1578
Date: 05/07/26 @ 3:34 PM
Fully out of pocket it's gonna run $1000+/- in the US, but a lot of insurances are starting to cover it.

If this were Europe we'd pay $100 per shot x3 with no coverage at all.
From: bfte #1579
Date: 05/07/26 @ 3:34 PM
yeah 45 seems like the max now, i expect my insurance would cover it.

i definitely need it less/not at all, anymore, given my circumstances
but i guess you never know what the future holds and when i turn 46 i don't wanna be like "fuck shoulda got that"

Appears Hantavirus is spreading human to human now thanks to this outbreak on this small cruise ship. 40 people disembarked before officials understood what killed person 1, 2 and 3.
Now they're having to contact trace these 40 who live all around the world

“We believe this will be a limited outbreak if the public health measures are implemented and solidarity is shown across all countries,” said Dr. Abdirahman Mahamud, the WHO’s alert and response director on Thursday.
