Fox News reporter Aishah Hasine was cut off mid-sentence while saying she had been sitting near White House Press Secretary Karoline
Leavitt’s husband Nicholas Riccio, who told her “You do a good job… you need to be safe tonight” then looked around the room seriously.

When so many officials gather in one place for official functions such as an inauguration or State of the Union address, the secretary of homeland security typically puts the Secret Service in charge of coordinating all security through a formal designation known as a “National Special Security Event.”
There was no such designation on Saturday night [...].
and there you have itActing attorney general Todd Blanche said Sunday he did not view the incident as a security failure. The gunman was detained before reaching the ballroom.
“On the contrary, it was a massive security success story,” Blanche said during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash. “I mean, if you think about what happened as far as what we know right now, this suspect barely breached the perimeter.”
bigly success
Justice Department cites dinner shooting to press preservationists to drop Trump ballroom suit
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s Justice Department is using the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday to try to pressure preservationists to drop their lawsuit over his planned $400 million ballroom on the site of the former East Wing of the White House.
“It’s time to build the ballroom,” acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said plainly Sunday on X, posting a letter in which Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate gave the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which has sued to block construction, until 9 a.m. Monday to dismiss its lawsuit.
If it doesn’t do so, Shumate wrote, the government would ask a court to do so “in light of last night’s extraordinary events,” calling the Washington Hilton — the site of Saturday’s gala — “demonstrably unsafe” for events with the president “because its size presents extraordinary security challenges for the Secret Service.”
The White House ballroom, Shumate wrote, “will ensure the safety and security of the President for decades to come and prevent future assassination attempts on the President at the Washington Hilton.”
So the entire line of succession to the presidency was in the room, and the government didn't seem to be aware of that.
If something had happened to them all, we would have had Chuck Grassley as president today. There was no designated survivor.

Is this hubris?BLANCHE: We will not stop doing things like we did last night in this administration
If my name was Chuck Grassley, I'd have a lawn service no doubt
i connect it to 10 years of trump calling for political violence.

What a breathe of fresh air King Charles is speaking at US Congress
He's cracking a few jokes both sides of the house chuckled sensibly
If he continues to be any more charming, Congress may vote to return America to the Commonwealth
Otherwise, noting the contrast between today and any other day, I am sorry of the bickering and grindlock that happens

From what I know it's not mandatory and you can still get the standard issue,
I feel like the intersection of people who want Trump's face on their passport and people who actually need a passport is pretty slim.

That reminds me of this edit, and I know it's not a commonly held opinion, but online circa 2015 was really on one, it was a good time.

Today's Kash Patel presser was.... wow.
His body language. I'm kinda worried for him. This is a profoundly insecure man who is in way over his head.
He's acting exactly as I would were I in his shoes. It's very freaky Friday, and I love it!

His impostor syndrome must make mine look like nothing. I can understand the drinking issues.
Imagine Kash Patel trying to go to sleep, and the carousel of self-doubt starts spinning in his head? His audible faint moans of shame and discomfort, muffled in the pillows so as not to wake Alexis. -She is singing the anthem, at a pickleball tournament tomorrow, she needs her sleep - I'm liking this guy more and more and for all the wrong reasons.
Kash, I hear you. I see you. Spiderkash would rather be gooning.

Attempt to repeal Colorado’s right-to-repair law fails
Manufacturers backed effort to repeal the law but ultimately failed.
A controversial bill in Colorado that would have undone some repair protections in the state has failed. The bill had been the target of right-to-repair advocates, who saw it as a bellwether for how tech companies might try to undo repair legislation more broadly in the US.
Colorado’s landmark 2024 repair law, the Consumer Right to Repair Digital Electronic Equipment, went into effect in January 2026 and ensured access to tools and documentation people needed to modify and fix digital electronics such as phones, computers, and Wi-Fi routers. The new bill, SB26-090, would have carved out an exception to those repair protections for “critical infrastructure,” a loosely defined term that repair advocates worried could be applied to just about any technology.
Supreme Court weakens the Voting Rights Act and aids GOP efforts to control the House
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Wednesday hollowed out a landmark Civil Rights-era law that has increased minority representation in Congress and elsewhere, striking down a majority Black congressional district in Louisiana and opening the door for more redistricting across the country that could aid Republican efforts to control the House.
In a 6-3 ruling, the court’s conservative majority found that Louisiana district represented by Democrat Cleo Fields relied too heavily on race. Chief Justice John Roberts had described the 6th Congressional District as a “snake” that stretches more than 200 miles (320 kilometers) to link parts of Shreveport, Alexandria, Lafayette and Baton Rouge.
“That map is an unconstitutional gerrymander,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the six conservatives.
...
Alito wrote that “allowing race to play any part in government decisionmaking represents a departure from the constitutional rule that applies in almost every other context.” He said Section 2 is effectively limited to instances of intentional discrimination, a very high standard.
Kagan said the upshot of the decision is that states “can, without legal consequence, systematically dilute minority citizens’ voting power.”
...
Barring extraordinary action, the broader impact probably will be felt in 2028, when Republicans potentially can replace more than a dozen Democratic-held House districts that were previously protected under the Voting Rights Act.
“The Voting Rights Act as a means to protect minority voters from vote dilution is essentially dead,” said Jonathan Cervas, a political scientist at Carnegie Mellon University who has served as an outside legal expert in multiple Voting Rights Act cases.
