This is by no means a new problem, but watching The Boys, I'm reminded how disappointing the cliche of super-intelligent characters is. Characters can only ever be as clever as their writer(s), and well...

Yeah, the stupidest thing a pop author can do is have a character who is supposed to be a genius writer, and then provide an example and it's like oh, buddy, no.

i think that's just a human limitation though like i can suspend my disbelief about stuff like that what annoys me the most is when "smart character" is taken to mean "character that knows everything"... intelligence isn't ALREADY knowing everything intelligence is the ABILITY to FIGURE OUT.
it's a nitpick, but it's also super boring to watch a "smart" character solve a problem by just happening to already know the chemical formula for propane or whatever it'd be a lot more interesting if they actually had to SOLVE the problem.
the worst offender for this is that one guy from criminal minds like, i know you have an eidetic memory which is another bad writing cliche but even if you DO memorize everything you've ever seen that doesn't mean that you've read every book ever written like you're 28 years old and you spend most of your time profiling serial killers you just literally haven't had the time

great writing, on the other hand, is when they stop a hacker from breaking into the mainframe because they can type faster than he can
because that’s actually how it works

just ONCE i want to see a "hacking" scene where the hacker is actually typing into an IDE or something instead of just hammering away at the keyboard while there is NO text editor of any kind on screen

like if i were writing the scene, i would just have the high-octane music while the other characters are huddled around the hacker and the hacker drag-and-drops a .json file onto a script or something and then sips their coffee while they watch the console input for a full 30 seconds before the script finishes and like, gives them the decrypted password or whatever

It should fail. And then they have to go back and find the error.

To its credit, they did this in one of the Matrix sequels when Trinity is hacking in a control room. It briefly shows an interface used by IRL hackers.

I'm sorry but we have The Net (1995), Hackers (1997), and Swordfish (2001), we do not need another hacker movie. If anything we were blessed with Mr Robot (2015-2019) which taught us that if you care too much about hacking both the system and your body you lose touch with reality. Rami Malek should have taken a cue from Matthew Lillard and strapped on some rollerblades.

not "shown" but the one time they actually referred to using an IDE and more realistic kind of software programming they got roasted by the nerds "who would make a UI to trace an ip address!" ... now 20 years later here I am telling AI to make quick throwaway UIs for QA all the time
Man Tubi is the shit. I VPN it over here, so I don't even get commercials. And it has everything, even good shit.

I love Tubi. Bub are you in england? I'm trying to help my niece watch movies over there, and she said england has tubi but I don't know if it's true same.
Them Boys 5x5 was ridiculous. At least it was funny. Where is this going?
They've so heavily intertwined the show into modern politics, I don't think you can really even discuss it without taking it over to the politics thread. haha

No I'm in Turkiye. I don't know what countries Tubi is legitimately in, but just have her use a VPN set to America. Works for me!
