it better be about a character i already know about
What Are You Streamin? - the shitty shows thread
They should make a Star Wars show that takes place like an even longer time ago when there weren’t any starships and we just follow around a bunch of cowboy outlaws committing heists and riding around on like star horses or something. Also, someone mysterious has some mystical force power but we don’t know what that is WINK WINK.
yknow i'm not as much of a star wars nerd as you might think
but afaik there's never been a star wars story based around a first contact scenario...
would be pretty interesting to see the republic, or empire, or whatever
from the perspective of a non-spacefaring species.
in particular, i bet they have their own religion based around their own understanding of The Force,

This is exactly right.
I watched season one and it was okay, and I agree. The second rewatch should be more fun but it seems like it was put together to be a disposable show. Fee-on-suh-fossy watched the rest of the series. He wasn't like a maniac into it like some folks but it was there (I watched it while I did other things like cross stitch and painting my nails. I wasn't paying very close attention).husband is rewatching stranger things s1
it's still very good television, but i actually think it's undermined by the revelations of the sequel seasons...
like, good twists should make it MORE fun to rewatch what led up to them but with this show, it's like, oh, ok, i know why the lights are doing that and it just makes it less interesting
The combinaton of stone face actors and terrible writing with a touch of nostalgia that lazily tries to capture what the world was like during the mid 80's while children age 15 years and the timeline only moves them to senior year of high school with a token black kid and lesbian girl just pissed me off.
Wynona Rider is not a strong actor, and luckily they had the sheriff guy to carry the show. And then suddenly in the last episode after ZERO character development as to why this was suddenly announced, the

little Matthew/Michael/skinny kid suddenly announces he's gay - like some kind of lip service of whoops we forgot to make this boy interesting and we are going to completely ignore how this actually would've gone in the mid-80's and we are going to have it be some wishy washy last episode bsIt just upset me how poorly the producers treated the fans and the audience. It was very much a here is all the shit we forgot in the previous seasons - wharblgrbl you will take it and you will like it.

were you just not paying attention to his character for the last several seasons?
like, i know i'm probably more alert to stuff like this
but he was clearly in love with finn wolfhard.
i know the general consensus is that the final season sucked, was written by ai, etc etc etc
and i generally agree with that
but the one thing i REALLY like is how it handled his character.
coming-out-gay stories are such a cliche at this point and they virtually always follow the same cookie cutter formula
where the object of the unrequited love turns out to have returned the feeling all along, and everyone lives happily ever after,
barf barf barf.
this is literally the ONE instance i've EVER seen where a character outright stated that it's ok that he didn't reciprocate
and the one-sided affection was never really about him in the first place.
that ONE conversation makes the whole last season worthwhile
to me
and i really wish i'd seen that scene when it was something i was struggling with.
then, of course, it returns to lazy denouement, with

I think I did genuinely miss that part. Like I said I didn't really watch it very closely and I may have missed episodes without knowing it and I never rewarched anything before the last season. The seasons came out so infrequently and I didn't care enough to keep up.
I'm glad to hear that it was something meaningful to you. You're right about coming out gay stories being so cliche and it's nice to hear that this was not that for those who kept up with the show.
I'm really glad that t spoke to you as well as it did! I stand corrected.
I'm trying out Yellowstone and this is radiating evil right from the start.
I mean Taylor Sheridan sucks right?
I liked Sicario but everything he does is the same as the thing before and it's all about being a big tough boomer who is rich and cool?

Oh shit that's the guy who walked off Sons Of Anarchy because he wanted a raise and the producers were like "Oh, we're sorry if you got the wrong impression."
i just feel like anyone who created Landman and Tulsa King is exactly the type of guy who i'd talk to for 45 seconds and be like "oh damn you fuckin suck huh"
I just wanted to put a character on TV that good honest Americans can relate to and see themselves in
Tight bro when's that one coming out

these are just show opinions.
if you didn't realize that's what all his angst was about for the last couple seasons
then i can see it seeming like it came completely out of left field
Okay I'm giving up, I can't tell any of the men apart and the theme seems to be These People Are Having A Hard Time Of It But They Could Stop Any Time.
That show blows. I hate watched it
1883 was a lot better
still had a nice, hateful foundation
just less contemporary?

It's not the setting or aesthetic, I don't think.
I mean, I like Landman, even though it's main message is that it's cool to love your people when you have the weight of Property and expertise behind you,
But Yellowstone seems to be little more than a rumble of anger and entitlement and it's fuckin' boring.
(I have not dipped into Tulsa King but it strikes me as another Ozark story where a middle-class white guy delves into a criminal world and shows them how to do it right and still fucks up left and right, (vide atque Breaking Bad).
Congrats on making me not want to watch something with Julia Garner, that takes some fuckin' chops.

Earlier today I was thinking, "Oh, Thursday. New The Pitt.
And then I was like, "Oh." Now all I'm watching is The Boys
and I'm kinda less than interested anymore.
I don't even know what else I might be interested in starting.

He did an interview where he talked about how he learned to write like eight pages of development for every character so that the dialogue and choices could easily reference it as a real world, and it shows.

I only have Prime and Max. I like Gen V. Wonder if they'll filter in as the season goes on, for the transition.
I don't think I've seen any of The Conjuring movies, but I've been curious. Maybe I saw the first one?
I guess I could go on another horror run.

well you can't watch Taylor Sheridan's shit unless you sub to Paramount+, a company run by, presumably, people that he admires and likes working with.
for whatever reason.
you know what maybe things have changed let me take a look at who owns Param- okay yep. yep.

Through a "hack" known as "phreaking", you can access Sheridan's material by singing Toby Keith's "American Soldier" with perfect pitch through a landline.
landmanline
you can also watch them for free by meeting taylor sheridan in person and saying something akin to "these kids these days don't know how to do big man business like big american men, do they taylor?"
that'll get you pretty far

yeah it's best to just take them as works of complete fiction

Aside from some stuff, I actually liked a lot about Euphoria 3x3. First time this season.
Because of that, I don't know if this is an uptick or a one-off of quality programming.
Anyway, I sure hope it is not the ladder.

Started Season 4 of Invincible. I think it's the best super hero story out there. Really actually tackles the impact of fighting and death and repercussions of being a super hero better than anything else I've seen, including The Boys. I'm glad I never read the comic, cause it goes to places you wouldn't expect quite often.
I watched first two episodes of new Beef.
It's pretty good so far. Nothing to do with the first season though.
What's wild is that right before this, my last watch was No Other Choice, which featured a ton of these kinda-like-a match cut but, uh, without the cut, like a non-diegetic superimpose right in the scene, sometimes for the mental state of the character, but more often just for the viewer. Well now this show has em too... Just like for a single beat sometimes, kinda unnerving because you start to doubt if you even saw that. Not really common stuff.
